Real Estate might be a good career choice for you in retirement
I woke this morning with this song playing in my head. Some of my best ideas begin this way, and it made me think about you. You, thinking about your upcoming retirement; you, thinking about moving to a new area; you, wondering what you will do for the rest of your life.
Real Estate was an inadvertent career choice for me
Did you know that some of our previous clients that have become some of our best agents? They're not the only ones who have found themselves unexpectedly working in real estate. In 2000 I moved to Delaware from the Washington, D.C. area for a change of pace. I was 53 and inadvertently found myself in real estate. When I founded Active Adults Realty I was over 60. You can read more details about my background prior to my real estate career on the Active Adults Realty website. This is the first career where I never got bored! No two clients are the same, and each day brings surprises and a few challenges.
Clients become colleagues
Some of our agents have started as clients. I'm glad that they're now colleagues here at Active Adults Realty.
When I met Linda Chick, she was a client moving to Delaware with her husband, Jack. She had a long career at Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Maryland, where she lived and retired as the Education/Docent Work Learn Coordinator. After retirement, she had worked briefly in real estate in Maryland but decided to relocate to Delaware and buy a home at Heritage Shores, one of our 55+ active adult communities. Linda became the first agent we hired!
Then there is Elliot Welan, another client that joined our team after moving here with his wife, Sue. After 33 years with Hecht Company, Elliot spent several years working in new home sales. He then came to Active Adults Realty to find a home here in Delaware, and, yes, he joined our team in 2013, and in 2021, Elliot is our Top Agent!
Ingrid Kollist moved to Lewes, Delaware, in 2015 after a 30-year career with the U.S. Department of State, taking her to Helsinki, Tallinn, Stockholm, Berlin, and Tel Aviv. When she joined Active Adults Realty, Ingrid said it was a natural fit for someone who has experienced first-hand the many challenges of relocating and buying and selling homes. Her professional background in economics also attracted her to the profession.
Francine Balinskas joined the team at Active Adults Realty in 2018 as a REALTOR with prior experience working as a REALTOR in Northern Virginia. Francine started her career on Long Island, New York, at the Federal Housing Administration and then worked for the Air Force as a civilian. After raising her children, she returned to the workforce as a Flight Attendant and later as a Customer Service Agent for ten years with United Airlines at Dulles International Airport. In 2006, she went to work as an Events Coordinator at Professional & Scientific Associates, Inc. (PSA), a global event logistics services company, for six years.
The bottom line? Some of our agents have been in your situation
When you consider the varied backgrounds of our team, you may see yourself. We have all been where you are, and thats why we decided to focus exclusively on people just like you and us!
Once we have helped you decide if moving to Delaware is the right move, think about whether a career in real estate assisting others to do the same is for you.
