We love living in downtown Lewes because we can ride our bikes to the beach, spend lots of time on running and biking trails, and enjoy lots of great local restaurants and cultural attractions. Yet we understand some home shoppers are looking for communities with pools, club houses and recreational activities that are available exclusively to residents. With that in mind I’m spotlighting a few from the more than 100 that we preview at our website that are especially well-suited for a resort-minded lifestyle right outside your door.
Western Sussex County – Heritage Shores
If you have an affinity for Delaware’s more rural areas but crave lots of physical activity and social time, you’ll love Heritage Shores in Bridgeville. It’s about 30 miles from Rehoboth and an easy drive to Ocean City or Dover to the north, and it’s filled with more amenities than just about any Delaware community.
That includes the public Arthur Hills 18-hole golf course, a 28,000-square foot fitness center, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, Passwater’s Restaurant and the 1730 Tavern along with lots of activities offered through the club house, including ballroom dancing and an arts and crafts studio.
The homes here are especially lovely, thanks to several builders and the availability of single family detached and attached homes priced from the mid $200s to the upper $400s.
Central Delaware – Four Seasons at Hatteras Hills
Another community tailor-made for people who love active lifestyles has been created by K. Hovnanian builders at Hatteras Hills. It features a 6,000-square foot club house with lots of planned activities and hang-out spaces for residents, along with a beautiful pool, pickleball and bocce ball courts, a dog park, fitness center and game room. You’ll also be close to Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course and great restaurants in nearby Dover and Milford https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g34032-Magnolia_Delaware.html, including Restaurant 55, the Cool Springs Fish Bar & Restaurant, and Medings Seafood. It’s also an easy drive to the beaches along Delaware Bay.
The homes are lovely, and if you go under contract for one that’s yet to be built you’ll have lots of options and finishes to choose from, with prices from the mid $400s to low $500s.
Upstate – Four Seasons at Baymont Farm
This is another K. Hovnanian community under construction that offers lots of customization options and close proximity to the cultural attractions of Wilmington. Like Hatteras Hills, it’s a resort-style neighborhood with a lovely pool, tennis and bocce courts, a big clubhouse with a fitness center and walking trails and small parks. You’re also near Augustine Beach and the historic towns of Odessa and Middletown.
The homes offer single floor living with prices from the high $400s to high $500s, and lots of options if you work with the builder to design your custom home.
Peninsula: The Ultimate Resort in Downstate Delaware
Peninsula is one of Delaware’s most unique communities because it’s in a lovely natural setting on the Indian River Bay and because it offers the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Spanning nearly 800 acres, it also offers a wide range of affordable and luxurious condominiums, villas, custom homes and homesites.
The golf course is especially notable for its environmental design and setting as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary,” with ample wildlife on the course and surrounding area. The community itself has the feel of a suburban village, with 6 tennis courts, 6 pickleball courts, a great fitness center, indoor pool and hot tub and another outside pool and wave pool for fun time on your own and with your grandkids. You also have terrific dining options close to home at The Terrace Grill, featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner inside and poolside.
Check out the multiple single family and villa style homes at the Web site, offering you a chance to move into a brand new home with custom options or an existing home in this beautiful and well-established low-maintenance community.
