Spotlight on Kent County for Festivals, Nature and Fine Housing Choices

Last week I wrote the first of three features describing the unique offerings of each of Delawares three counties. If you check out these details on New Castle County, youll see how wonderful it is if youre commuting to your job in Wilmington, and if you want to be near numerous cultural and recreational offerings.

This week Im spotlighting Kent County, which is in the middle of the state, a great place for cultural and recreational attractions and more affordable homes within an hours drive of Wilmington to the north or the beaches in Sussex County to the south.

A Military Hub . . . the Seat of Government . . . and Festival Central

If youve served in the military or are a big follower of current events, youve probably heard of Dover Air Force Base.

As a USAF veteran, Im proud to know its the U.S. Department of Defenses largest aerial port, and home to the 436th Airlift Wing and 512th Airlift Wing, which fly hundreds of missions around the world, moving outsized cargo and personnel on schedules and special assignments and exercise and contingency airlift missions.

As noted in this description, the base is crucial to our national security and provides critical links to more than 100 countries. And if youre interested in aviation or history youll probably enjoy visiting the Air Mobility Command Museum.

Kent County also hosts our state capital, Dover, which has a lovely downtown with many beautifully preserved and historic municipal buildings, and is surrounded by attractions such as the Dover Motor Speedway and Ballys Dover Casino Resort and pristine natural areas such as Hunn Nature Park, the St. Jones Reserve and the Little Creek Wildlife area.

Kent County also hosts fun special events like the Dover Days Festival, which happens every year on the first Saturday of May and features all kinds of family-friendly activities . . .

The Firefly Music Festival, which returns this year from September 22nd through the 25th with some of the worlds most well-loved performers . . .

And the Delaware State Fair in Harrington which showcases Delawares wonderful agricultural heritage and brings acts including ZZ Top, Nelly, Hank Williams, Jr. and others to Harrington this year from July 21st through the 30th.

You can learn about these events at others at this link.

So Many Beautiful Homes . . . in Beautiful Settings Too!

Neighborhoods around Dover also offer a wide variety of housing options, with prices ranging from $150,000 to more than $500,000. .

Champions Club is especially nice if youre looking for multiple amenities, including a club house and lots of planned activities, a large pool, tennis courts and walking trails.

Youll also find multiple amenities and large, lovely homes at Four Seasons at Hatteras Hills.

If youre looking for minimal maintenance and affordability, check out Southern Meadow, and active community in Magnolia.

One of our favorite places for home shoppers who love the beaches of the middle Delaware Bay and quaint downtown districts is Milford, which straddles both Kent and Sussex Counties. The historic center of the area is particularly lovely, with fine and casual restaurants, boutiques and galleries and a picturesque setting alongside the Mispillion River. Heres a link to some of the best Milford attractions.

As youll see from this link, there are many new communities offering a variety of homes from less than $200,000 to larger single family homes approaching $700,000.

Next week well spotlight Sussex County and the surprising array of options beyond the beach!
