Should I Encourage My Aging Parents to Relocate to Delaware?

My elderly parents do not want to move

We get quite a few calls from Baby Boomers who want to relocate their aging parents to Delaware. Some are moving here themselves and do not want to leave their parents behind. But, do the parents even want to move? In many cases, they dont want to leave their home of 40 years or more.

What are the options?

  • Remain back in their own home all alone.
  • Move into a Continuing Care Retirement Community if the resources are available.
  • Move in with you or another family member.
  • They can move to Delaware but not live with you.

Could you relocate your aging parents to Delaware?

Choosing from the above options will never be an easy decision to make. If you do choose to move them to Delaware, there are a few good options for healthy older adults to live depending on budget. Some of the best communities with homes that are both affordable and accessible include:

Southern Delaware -

The Village of Cinderberry Mostly one level attached homes

Cedar Bay 3 story buildings with elevators; condos sell quickly when they become available

Bay Crossing Some of the smaller homes are one level but all have a 1st-floor master; again these sell quickly when they become available

Central Delaware -

Longacre Village Viable options include one level attached homes

Spring Meadow Attached homes and single family homes with 1st-floor masters

Northern Delaware -

Spring Arbor Attached homes and single family homes with 1st-floor masters

Traditions at Christiana Single family homes with 1st-floor masters
