What’s always mattered most about our life in Delaware is the broad range of opportunities we have to enjoy nature, entertainment and culture, and the simple pleasures of good friends and neighbors. That’s why my last two posts about the winter holidays have focused on parades, performances, gorgeously decorated homes and other wonderful experiences.

It's hard to believe that I have been living in Delaware for nearly 25 years. My first visit here was way back in 1991, and by 1999, I made the decision to make this place my permanent home. The main reason behind my move was for a fresh start. I was looking for new opportunities and a change of scenery. Delaware seemed like the perfect place for that. Before that, I've lived in a few different places like Pennsylvania, The Netherlands, New Mexico, South Korea, and Maryland.
Our state is filled with beautiful historic places, many replete with stories of hauntings and unexplainable phenomena. Last week I posted about a lot of the fall fun to be had on my own home turf around Delaware’s beaches and rural downstate spots listed in the 2023 Festivals Guide published by the Cape Gazette. This week I’m looking at the Brandywine Valley far to the north, where rolling pastures give way to beautiful and charming towns, including downtown Wilmington. It’s especially beautiful in the autumn, and full of entertainment and cultural attractions.
...I was thrilled to hear this because the 55+ demographic is the fastest-growing in Sussex County and fairly robust in Kent and New Castle Counties as well. Many of us go to great lengths to stay healthy by exercising regularly, forming good friendships, and enjoying lot of fresh food raised right here in Delaware. Unfortunately none of us are made of steel, so we’ll never be able to completely avoid falls, injuries or bouts of illness. So having great healthcare close to home is yet another reason to celebrate our Delaware lifestyles.
