READY TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND EXERCISE? HERE ARE SOME GREAT WAYS TO GET READY!

Are you tired of winter yet? And anxious to get outside or just get on your feet and move! If you live down near the beaches the good news is there are lots of ways to get fit and have fun. I’m going to do a post about local cycling and walking trails, biking and walking clubs and other ways to exercise outside on your own or with friends as soon as the weather warms. In the meantime, I’m spotlighting several gyms offering a variety of experiences – and the upcoming Health and Fitness Expo set for Saturday, March 7th at Cape Henlopen High School.

Here are some wonderful places to get in shape, based on the type of exercise you like.

LOW-IMPACT STRETCHING-FOCUSED WORKOUTS FOR FLEXIBILITY, MUSCLE STRENGTH AND PEACE OF MIND:

Right Balance Pilates emphasizes flexibility and mobility

Sea Barre Fitness offers full body workouts for flexibility, strength and cardio conditioning

Dimitry Yoga has classes for all fitness levels, for women and men

More yoga studios around the beach, ranked by Yelp reviews

INDOOR GYMS WITH LOTS OF RESISTANCE EQUIPMENT, WEIGHTS, CARDIO MACHINES, PERSONAL TRAINING AND GROUP CLASSES, INCLUDING THOSE FOR PARKINSON’S

Everyone Fitness is a big gym that’s open 24 hours with low membership fees

Rise Fitness & Adventure is also large, and also offers classes for people dealing with Parkinson’s

Midway Motion and Fitness is another large gym that gets great reviews from locals who have been members for decades

AND HERE’S A GREAT WAY TO LEARN ABOUT ALL KINDS OF OPTIONS AROUND THE BEACH

Spend some time at the Health-Fitness & Leisure Expo at Cape Henlopen High School on March 7th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be at least 90 exhibitors offering health, fitness, and leisure products and services, including:

  • More detailed information about local fitness programs and clubs
  • Physical therapy options
  • Spas and pools for your home
  • Bikes and scooters so you can explore the region on wheels
  • Canoes and kayaks for fitness and fun on Delaware and Rehoboth Bay
  • Information about local golf courses

Beebe Healthcare will also offer free health screenings, and Bountiful Bowls will offer healthy breakfast and lunch options.

Here’s an interview of Expo’s organizer Kathy Benson

And here’s a TV commercial about the event
