
Last week I posted about all of the great shows being staged during January and February in theatres around our beach towns. This week we’re spotlighting theaters in central Delaware and up north around Wilmington and beyond. We are so lucky to live in a state with so much vibrant culture!
IN KENT COUNTY
The Kent County Theatre Guild will present the Sweet Delilah Swim Club celebrating the humor and heart found in the friendship between five women at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, February 27th and 28th, March 6th and 7th, and March 13th and 14th, along with a Sunday Matinee at 2 p.m. on March 8th.
The historic Smyrna Opera House will present:
- The Great American Songbook, with some of the best soul, R & B and gospel music from the 1960s and 1970s, on Saturday, February 14th from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
- A Special Experience for Caregivers concert celebrating the joys of everyday heroes on Wednesday, February 18th from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Bell Bottom Blues commemorating Eric Clapton from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 21st.
- Reality Bites, a tribute to 1990s pop, rock, alternative, dance R & B and hip hop from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 28th.
IN NEW CASTLE COUNTY
Wilmington’s City Theatre Company will present:
- The Fearless Improv monthly show on Saturday, February 7th at 8 p.m. and the Fearless Improv @Wilmington Brew Works show on Friday, February 13th at 8 p.m.
- POTUS, or Behind Every Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive on Friday and Saturday, February 27th and 28th and Sunday March 1st, and Friday and Saturday, 6th and 7th. Evening shows are at 8 p.m. and the Sunday show is at 2 p.m.
Wilmington’s Delaware Symphony Orchestra will present Brass Pipes at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, February 24th at 7:30 p.m.
Wilmington’s Delaware Theatre Company will present Glory Ride, a story of Tour de France champion Gino Bartali, who saved hundreds of people from Mussolini, from February 18th through March 8th.
The First State Ballet Theatre at the Grand in Wilmington will present Dreams in Motion on Saturday February 21st at 7 p.m. and Sunday, February 22nd at 2 p.m.
At The Grand’s Copeland Hall in Wilmington you’ll have the opportunity to see:
- Billy F. Gibbons and the BFG Band on Friday, February 6th at 8 p.m.
- Curious George: The Golden Meatball on Sunday, February 15th at 2 p.m.
- The Black History Hall of Fame on for kids ages 8 to 13 on Tuesday, February 17th at 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.
- Kansas, playing the band’s greatest hits on Friday, February 20th at 8 p.m.
- The Rock Orchestra playing the best of Lynrd Skynrd on Saturday, February 21st at 8 p.m.
The Baby Grand will present:
- An Evening With Josh Ritter: The Book of Gold Thrown Open on Friday, February 6th at 8 p.m.
- An Evening with Jimmy Webb on Saturday, March 7th at 8 p.m.
The Grand’s Playhouse theatre will present:
- Adam Pascal & Anthony Rapp: Celebrating 30 Years of Friendship & Music on Friday, February 6th at 8 p.m.
- Keb’ Mo’ on Friday, February 27th at 8 p.m.
The Candlelight Theatre in Wilmington is presenting Mel Brooks’ The Producers from now until February 22nd
The Newark Symphony Orchestra will present a concert with selections from Bach, Beethoven, Grieg and Enescu on Saturday, February 21st at 7:30 p.m.
Opera Delaware on the Wilmington Riverfront will present Pagliacci/Service Provider at the Opera Delaware Studios on Sunday, January 25th at 2 p.m. and Cabaret for Two: Love and Marriage at the Studios on Friday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 22nd at 2 p.m.
In Newark, the University of Delaware’s Resident Ensemble Players will present Art, a comedy about the fragility of relationships for Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances from February 12th through March 1st.
In Wilmington The Queen theatre will present:
- Mike Cannon comedy on Thursday, January 29th at 8 p.m.
- Spokey Speakey’s Bob Marley Concert on Friday, February 30th at 8 p.m.
- High Voltage X Chillin with Charlie on Saturday, February 7th at 8 p.m.
- Emo Night Brooklyn on Friday, February 13th at 8:30 p.m.
- Music from Bumpin’ Uglies on Saturday, February 14th at 8 p.m.

The Wilmington Drama League is presenting the musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change through February 1st, and the Ruby M. Stanley One-Act Festival on February 6th and 7th.
