GET READY FOR MORE CHRISTMAS FUN ACROSS THE FIRST STATE

If you love Christmas you’re extraordinarily lucky to live in Delaware! In this post – my fourth about this wonderful winter holiday season – I’m spotlighting a few more fun ways to celebrate.

The Festival of Lights at Wilmington’s Delaware Park

All right, I understand why you wouldn’t normally take your grandkids to a casino, but the vices are taking a tame turn between now and December 21st as Delaware Park Casino stages the Festival of Lights and Holiday Market. It happens every Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m., with a spectacular light show and a bazaar featuring children’s activities, holiday candies and other treats, jewelry and crafts for gift-giving and a lot more. Delaware Park is located in Wilmington at 777 Delaware Park Boulevard. Get the details at https://lightsatdelpark.com/about

History and Holiday Magic at Wilmington’s Grandest Places

Downtown Wilmington and its surrounding towns are decked out for the season, with so many special events for people of all ages. Take your grandkids to the Brandywine Museum of Art to see 2,000 feet of miniature train track weaving through a bucolic village . . . and your sweetheart to Longwood Gardens to see hundreds of thousands of sparkling lights across a magical Christmas landscape . . . and your whole family to the Wilmington and Western Railroad for a festive ride through the countryside on 100-year-old heated coaches covered in holiday lights. Learn about all of this and much more at https://www.visitwilmingtonde.com/events/holiday/

Drive Through the Gift of Lights at the Dover Motor Speedway

Stay warm in your car as you drive through the Dover Motor Speedway’s fabulous Gift of Lights, a show of lights and holiday displays and festive tunes down a truly enchanted path. It’s up now through January 5th. Get the details at https://www.giftoflightsdover.com/

And Through Lovely Lewes for More Holiday Lights

Another spectacular display is ready for you in downtown Lewes, where beautiful homes and businesses are decked out in joyful displays of holiday cheer for the Lewes Lights Tour. Inaugurated during the 2020 Covid crisis, the event has become an ever more popular way to drive through the town and feel the warmth of celebration. It happens between 5 and 9 p.m. every night between now and December 31st. Learn more and get a map of the tour at https://www.leweslights.org/

With More Fun at Schellville’s Magical Christmas Village

Every year since 2017 thousands of people of all ages have visited Schellville, a five-acre Christmas village that magically appears behind the outlet malls on Route 1 between Lewes and Rehoboth. This year it’s more spectacular than ever, with train rides, imitation snow, a skating rink, food, arts and crafts and – of course – a chance for your grandkids to spend time with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
