Summer may be over, but there is still plenty to do in the off-season at the beach!
In this week's Ask The Broker video, Kathy highlights all of the fun festivals and fundraisers happening around Coastal Delaware. Plenty of fun to be had around the region for all ages!
What is there to do off-season at the beach in Delaware? Hi, this is Kathy Sperl-Bell at Active Adults Realty in Delaware, and the answer is there is so much to do off-season and there's more and more every year. So today, I thought I would highlight just a few because last week, we received the fall festival guide, and it is just chock full of ideas. So a few to highlight and a few of my personal favorites.
Let's start with the town of Milton, and the Milton Historical Society every year has what they call the King Cole Cookoff. This year, it's happening September 27th. Lots of good food, a really terrific cause. The Milton Historical Society just does so many good things for the town all year long. So the King Cole Cookoff. That same weekend in Lewes, Delaware, is the History Book Festival, and that takes place on September 28th and 29th, and there are 21 free author presentations at the Lewes Public Library, the Rollins Community Center and Lewes Presbyterian Church, just really sounds like a fantastic event. I think this is the third annual History Book Festival.
Now, the first weekend in October, there is so much going on. I'm not sure how to choose, but personally, I would have to start with the Rehoboth Beach Fall Sidewalk Sale. There are some shops that I try to only shop at during the sidewalk sales, and given that my birthday's October 5th, I think some shopping is in order. That same weekend, the Lewes Fall Craft Fair is October 6th, sponsored by the Lewis Historical Society, Lewes Oktoberfest with lots of great beer at Lewis Canal Front Park, another fundraiser. Coast Day on October 7th with lots going on at the University of Delaware campus. There's the Boast the Coast Maritime Festival, just lots going on that weekend. And if you don't want to stay in Lewes, there's also the Wings and Wheels 2018 Fall Festival sponsored by the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Aviation Museum. So they've got a vintage plane fly-in, a classic car show, and onFriday, October 5th, they have a fabulous 50s' greasers ball. Great music, dancing, sounds like just a great time.
So also want to point out, continuing all throughout the fall from October 6th through November 17th, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market does continue to operate out of the Shields Elementary School parking lot. So October 6th through November 17th, starting at 9:00 AM to 12 noon. Great produce all fall long. So that's the Fall Farmers Markets.
Now coming up to my all time favorite., probably event of the entire year, is the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. This year, it's from October 11th through October 14th, and at venues all throughout the area, Rehoboth, Lewes, and some of their 30 artists over 25 performances including Kirk Whalum, one of my favorite saxophone players. Gerald Albright, Ryan Culberson. Just a great event.
Now, for great family fun. You can't beat the Sea Witch Festival in Rehoboth Beach. I don't know. This has been going on for so many years. It runs from October 26th through the 28th. And there are costume parades for us, and also for our pets. Don't miss the Best Costumed dog parade on Sunday the 28th. Not to be outdone, back to Milton again, they have the Zombie Fest on October 20th, which is going to include eight food trucks, 20 vendors, zombie makeup stations, lots of activities for kids. Just sounds like a lot of fun, again, in Milton. Now, November. The biggest event in November, other than Thanksgiving, is the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. This year, running from November 1st through the 11th. It's the largest and oldest event of its kind in Delaware and it attracts film enthusiasts from all over that come to see the international features, American films, documentaries, and lots of great short films as well.
Now again, that's just a few of the events, not to mention all the food, beer and wine festivals all over Delmarva, and the ongoing fall season at Clear Space Theater in Rehoboth which continues with Rabbit Hole, Heathers the Musical, Willy Wonka, and of course concludes the season with A Christmas carol this year. So if you can't find something fun to do off-season at the beach in Delaware, I don't know what to tell you. Hope to see you.
