The Growing Delaware Dining Scene:Coastal Delaware offers great seafood restaurants plus numerous choices for eclecticdining experiences.
When I first moved to Coastal Delaware from the D.C. Metropolitan area, one of the few things I missed were the great choices of ethnic restaurants. The entire D.C. Metropolitan area offers many options. I had come to love Vietnamese, Thai, and Indian food.
Well, that was 2000, and back then, we had mostly great seafood restaurants at the Delaware beaches. I could eat seafood daily. The restaurants always on my favorites list include Fins, FishOn, Blue Coast, and Striper Bits.
DelawareDining Choices to Tempt Your Taste Buds
Japanese & Sushi Bars
The Cultured Pearl was one of the first Japanese restaurants and sushi bars to open. In 2007 it moved to its current location on Rehoboth Avenue. The Cultured Pearl remains my favorite despite the many other sushi restaurants which have opened since, like Saketumi on Coastal Highway, Stingray in Rehoboth, and Flying Fish Caf and Sushi Bar in Fenwick Island. With all of these choices, I think we have Japanese covered! But it was only recently that other exotic options have begun to pop up, starting with Indian.
Indian Cuisine
Indigo Indian Cuisine opened in downtown Rehoboth Beach. This restaurant has been getting rave reviews from Rehoboth Foodie and everyone else I talk to. The Kumars moved to Washington, D.C., from Punjab, India and have owned a restaurant in the Annapolis, MD area since 1992. Their son has now come to Rehoboth to open Indigo.
Not to be outdone, Lewes is about to get its own Indian Fusion restaurant this summer. The new owners have bought the now-purple turn-of-the-century Victorian between Heirloom and The Buttery on Savannah Road. The most noticeable change, we hear, is the color will be restored to the light blue that many remember from years ago.
More New Restaurants Opening This Past Year
Blue Coast on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth. Blue Coast is part of the SoDel Concepts restaurant group which includes Fish On, Matts Fish Camp and Lupo Italian Kitchen. Blue Coast has quickly become a local favorite.
Our Harvest opened in Fenwick Island this past winter. The owners of Liquid Assets at 94th Street in Ocean City opened Our Harvest and the reviews are fantastic. This is on my must go before summer list.
In late spring 2018 watch for the opening of Harvest Tide Steakhouse in Lewes. This will be located down the street from Wheelhouse which took over the old Wharf location on the canal in Lewes. The Wheelhouses Grand Opening was Friday, the 13th of April. I finally did make it to the Wheelhouse a few weeks after they opened and I think it will be a huge success. We dont have many waterfront dining options and Wheelhouse also has lots of parking!
Station on Kings on Kings Highway in Lewes is another new local favorite offering great local produce, specialty foods, and caf fare. I just talked with one of my clients who raved about the food and atmosphere here.
Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant will be opening a Rehoboth location any day now. This very popular brewpub has locations in Wilmington and Newark, DE plus several other locations in Pennsylvania.
