Meet John and Elaine Lotto of Lewes, Delaware - Our Featured Boomers

John and Elaine Lotto relocated to Delaware in June 2017 from Rochester, New York. They moved into the community of Senators in Lewes, DE. John and Elaine also considered moving to the greater Philadelphia area before settling on Delaware for the location of their new home.

Prior to moving here, John was in the athletic and orthopedic footwear industry for almost 40 years. In his retirement, he worked at the YMCA, taught safe-driving classes for AARP, led communion services and was on the draft board. Elaine was self-employed for 35 years, conducting library and Internet research for fund-raisers at non-profit organizations. Her clients were prep schools, colleges, hospitals, and museums. She also held Internet training sessions for new researchers.

Currently, John works part-time at the Rehoboth Beach YMCA. He is a coach in the Wellness Center, helping people on the machines, and teaching new exercisers how to use them. He plays tennis with a group at Five Points and bikes The Loop with a group of men from Senators. He also loves the pool and fitness center at Senators.

Elaine enjoys playing pickleball at the Canal Front Park, goes to classes at the Y, and participates in activities at Senators, including book club, card making, making caps for Beebe babies and attending special events.

When asked how they decided on Delaware, they talked about Delaware's proximity to their sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren living in Philadelphia, proximity to extended family in the Northeast, and the mild climate.

How did they choose the community of Senators in Delaware?

They love the location east of Route 1 and the two bike paths running through Senators. They ride their bikes to Rehoboth Beach, sunsets at Lewes Beach, the Lewes Library, and restaurants in town. They also bike to special events like the Fourth of July fireworks and the Sea Witch Festival, avoiding all the traffic.

John and Elaine enjoy playing tennis, pickleball, biking, reading, grandchildren, attending concerts, festivals, exploring parks, especially Cape Henlopen State Park. They are regulars at the weekly Happy Hours at Senators and love their days exploring the local parks, visiting grandchildren and hosting out of town relatives in their new home.

Items on their Bucket List include: becoming involved in some non-profit organizations in the area, joining a committee within Senators and continuing our travels in the US and abroad.
