Meet The Stapletons: Our Featured Boomers

Our Featured Boomers are Tom and Jackie Stapleton of Bridgeville.

Tom and Jackie Stapleton hit the ground running after relocating to Southern Delaware from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Tom, a professor who retired from teaching after 35 years in the public schools and local universities, and Jackie, who spent 30 years in social services, made the First State their home in February 2015.

Before selecting their Delaware retirement destination, the Stapletons -

having vacationed in Delaware for years, looked at several different places in Pennsylvania and in Delaware before finding their dream home in Sussex Countys active adult neighborhood, Heritage Shores.

The most important factors in selecting a new place to relocate were, finding a comfortable place to live within driving distances of our children; we wanted to live in a place with many recreational choices; and be in a central location to other attractions located in Washington DC, Baltimore, Philly, the DE Seashore, etc.

Zeroing in on Delaware, we knew the area pretty well. And, we wanted a place that had the possibilities of playing golf more often, riding our bikes and having a fun social life. We found that at Heritage Shores.

What have been the Stapletons been up to these last two years? Toms been keeping busy painting and selling landscapes, a hobby that he loves. Tom will be showing his oil paintings at a reception in Heritage Shores Sugar Beet Market in March and will be active in the Mispillion Art League. Toms paintings can be also purchased at www.stapletonpaintings.com. And, well be playing golf as often as we can on the communitys 18-hole, championship golf course.

Tom is also a member of a writing group called Four Pops, retired public school teachers, whose goal is to promote reading at an early age. We decided to write our first book about our favorite college football team, Notre Dame. We researched the mascot angle and this became the subject of our book, The Next Notre Dame Mascot, licensed by Notre Dame is for sale in bookstores, gift shops and markets in Pennsylvania and Delaware and can be purchased at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Notre Dame Bookstore and catalog, as well as The Irish Rose in Milford and the Sugar Beet Market at Heritage Shores. The Stapletons will continue to market this book and prepare for the Four Pops next one.

With their remaining free time, we are going to enjoy the easy life of being retired, including meeting new people, golf, riding bikes, playing games at the clubhouse, wine club and bocce ball.

On the Stapletons Bucket List are getting involved in community organizations like the Rehoboth Art League, Toys for Tots and Habitat for Humanity.
