Every business, regardless of industry, wants to believe they are different and I am sure you hear that all the time. In this case however, Active Adults Realty is very different than any other real estate company you may have dealt with over the years. We specialize in working with people just like us Baby Boomers who are not necessarily native to Delaware but who are thinking of making a move here to purchase a home that may become their retirement home. When I told other REALTORS that I was calling our new brokerage Active Adults Realty, they often told me I was crazy, said Kathy Sperl-Bell, Broker/Owner of the firm. What is so unique about our market?
Baby Boomers planning for retirement are facing big decisions. Everything in life is about to change when they do retire and to think about relocating at the same time is HUGE. Think about the stress of major life changes and then just try doing them all within a few months. Retire Sell the family home decide where to move buy a new home etc.!
Buying a new home in your home town is one thing but trying to decide on what and where to buy in an area you barely know is truly impossible without the experienced guidance of a REALTOR sensitive to your needs. Our team is uniquely qualified to help you. Many of my agents and staff started out as clients when they relocated to Delaware themselves. Even our photographer Phil Martin started as a client.
Dont other agents work with Baby Boomers and Retirees?
When other brokerages and agents here found out that I wasnt that crazy after all, a lot of them decided to go out and buy domain names (URLs) pertaining to Retiring to Delaware and any other combination of available terms related to people planning to retire to Delaware. They claim to be serving this market but for the most part they are general brokerages who react to the next phone call or person who walks in their door.
Do you only handle Active Adult Communities?
Absolutely not. We focus on the people, most of whom are probably in their 50s and 60s Active Adults. We even help some that joke they are inactive adults. The largest part of our business is working with Buyers and at least half do not want to buy homes in an age-restricted community. Many do, but most are looking to downsize somewhat from the home they just sold and one thing they tend to want is less maintenance and someone else to cut the grass!
Being At Home In Your New Home Town.
In 2001, as a new resident of Delaware and a brand new REALTOR I needed to craft a career in real estate. I didnt know anyone; I didnt grow up here obviously and anyone I told was skeptical I would ever make a dime. How can you start a real estate business in an area already dominated by big names and family real estate firms? is what people asked. Being a transplant and a Baby Boomer myself I realized the best market for me to focus on was people like myself. People making decisions about where and how they want to live from this point forward. There are already plenty of real estate agents listing and selling luxury vacation homes or manufactured homes on leased land.
This move has nothing to do with schools and jobs but it does have a lot to do with proximity to children, grandchildren and friends. This decision is personal and it has no hard timeline. When and exactly where may be difficult to pinpoint. That is one of the main benefits of working with the team here at Active Adults Realty. We're at home in our new home towns!
