Our Featured Boomers, John and Carol Knapp are from Denville New Jersey, and they are anticipating their final move into their Oakwood Village home on June 24, 2015.
Carol is an Administrator at Morris County Vocational School District and John, who retired from Verizon and has been working in security, are winding down their jobs and anticipating their Delaware retirement at the end of school year 2015! Carol couldnt be happier.
The Knapps considered Southern New Jersey (or in Carols dreams, Colorado) before buying in Delaware.
When asked what were the most important factors in making Delaware their relocation choice, they answered, the general area and atmosphere, the warmer weather, a slower lifestyle and of course, "the tax benefits. Okay, thats four."
Carol and John chose Oakwood Village in Lewes for its small community size and location. The Neighborhood features a clubhouse with tennis courts and fitness center and the community space is lined generously with trees and ponds. They liked the house style and lot choices, the builder and general lifestyle offered. We visit every weekend and the house is just about ready to move in. Weve been buying new furniture and other items for the house. We lucked out with also getting some great neighbors and we havent even met them all yet!
Once the Knapps settle into their new home, they plan on getting to know and enjoy the entire area. They are, Anticipating getting in shape, (Carol wants to get back to Yoga), and just doing what we want; kayaking, biking, gardening, walking the boardwalk and shoreline and our passion bird watching! This is going to be great! We are looking forward to simply waking up and saying gee, what should we do today?
As far as hobbies, primarily birdwatching will be at the top of their list followed by traveling, gardening, kayaking and biking.. The couple volunteers withNJ DEP - Endangered & Nongame Species Program and have helped with banding and caring for our nations bird, the Bald Eagle.
They hope to volunteer at Delaware's state parks and the local hospitals as well. We love to be outdoors. And as a cancer survivor, Carol wants to help out in the hospital as, I remember just how much a friendly face can mean.
Whats on the Knapps Boomer Bucket List? We love to travel, so well be planning trips to China and Tibet, going back to Australia and New Zealand, back to Africa and Germany one more time, board the Orient Express and and.. and we just never get enough! Too many places too little time perhaps. But our main bucket list item is just being healthy and spending a lot of years enjoying our life together.
