Meet Bob and Jayne Holmes
Locals Now! recently interviewed Bob and Jayne Holmes who moved to Lewes in May 2012 for our Featured Boomer column. The Holmes relocated from Cape Neddick, Maine after Bob retired. We lived near York in Maine. Its near the coast same as here, were seven miles from the beach. Bob met Jayne in Maine and they married in 2002.
Bob was the CFO for an electronics component and printing company, who has worked with comedian Bob Marley and country western star Garth Brooks among others. While Jayne was a staff accountant before the move, she continues to work full time for the same company from their Lewes home in The Ridings.
LN: Where else did you consider before buying in Delaware?
BH: Hilton Head, North Carolina or Savannah, Georgia.
LN: When did you actually move here?
BH: I retired on April 16, 2012, we moved to Lewes on May 18th.
LN: What were the most important factors in making your choice?
BH: Our family our son in Maine, daughter in Princeton, NJ and Janes sister who lives in Sea Colony in Bethany Beach, and the climate. We were looking for a warmer climate. Jayne only needed to be near a beach, south of Maine.
LN: Why did you choose The Ridings?
BH: First, we chose Kathy to help us meet our retirement home/lifestyle needs. After visiting The Ridings, we fell in love the Mulberry model as well as the builder, Schell Brothers. We also liked the reasonable HOA fees at The Ridings which were lower than other communities we toured. Even though we are living west of Route One, its seven miles from the beach. We left a large property in Maine and didnt want to feel bound by fences. We love the open space at The Ridings and outdoor pool.
LN: What are your plans now that you are localizing (loving our casual active lives, now!)
JH: I will continue to work full time (telecommuting) for the same company from home and volunteer when time allows.
BH: We booked on a cruise through the West Caribbean starting from New Orleans, LA and heading to Belize!
LN: On the Holmes Bucket List
BH: A trip to Italy and renting a cabin in Maine for a long visit with their son.
Bob, a Vietnam veteran, loves sports especially softball, basketball and golf. He is a die-hard Boston Red Sox and Patriots fan. He also likes his toys including his MGB. The couple enjoys playing trivia engaging the pursuit of knowledge at Irish Eyes in Lewes and at The Pint in Millsboro. Since relocating Jayne has volunteered in the soup kitchen at Conleys Chapel. She also shops the farmers markets and they attended this years jazz festival.
The Holmes new home is also a great place for Jake, their big, beautiful, yellow Labrador Retriever. They love utilizing their outdoor space at The Ridings and have made their patio area an inviting space foe all. They spend a lot of time outside enjoying their view while Jake enjoys the wetlands surrounding the property.
