ENJOY THESE SPECIAL JUNE EVENTS

Thanks to the Cape Gazette’s Spring and Summer Festivals Guide, we have a great way to plan some fun-filled days and nights in June and beyond. I hope you can take a look to see what suits you best, and offer a few highlights:

 

COASTAL DELAWARE RESTAURANT WEEK runs from June 7th through 12th and gives you an opportunity to enjoy special discounts and custom prix fixe menus at some of the area’s most popular eateries in Rehoboth, Dewey, Lewes and elsewhere near the beaches. 

 

The BETHANY BEACH SEASIDE CRAFT SHOW takes place on June 6th from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. and features lots of handmade goods, exhibitions and live music with fantastic views of the ocean from the Boardwalk. 

 

The MID-ATLANTIC SEA GLASS & COASTAL ARTS FESTIVAL takes place June 6th and 7th on the scenic campus of the Lewes Historical Society. This is a major annual event for lovers of sea glass and other nautical crafts and features lectures on shipwrecks and other maritime history along with live music and food trucks. Come for the art and stroll around this beautiful historic town. 

 

The annual SUMMER LIVING EXPO takes place at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes the weekend of June 13th and 14th and features more than 100 exhibitors of home, healthy financial, and lifestyle offerings. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. It’s a great event for newcomers to the area. 

 

A free concert celebrating an ALL-AMERICAN NIGHT OF JAZZ will take place at 7 p.m. on June 16th at Stango Park in Lewes. It will feature the Delmarva Big Band celebrating the 250th anniversary of Delaware, and will be narrated by Lewes Council member Trina Brown-Hicks. 

 

The OLD TIMERS’ DAY CLASSIC CAR SHOW & FAMILY FESTIVAL takes place on June 20th in Selbyville, where you’ll see more than 100 classic cars, live music, an outdoor beer garden, food vendors and fun family activities. It takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

 

The JUNE JAM MUSIC FESTIVAL, featuring live music from many genres, food and beverage vendors and opportunities to camp overnight takes place at G&R Campground on June 20th in Houston

 

A great follow-up to your visit to the Summer Living Expo the weekend of June 13th and 14th  is the LEWES GARDEN TOUR, taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 20th. It’s a self-guided event of some of the historic town’s most beautiful and innovative outdoor spaces and includes a marketplace at Zwaanendael Park. 

 

Country traditions will be celebrated at the FIRST STATE FEST at Hudson Fields on June 27th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lots of local foods, including scrapple, chicken wings and baked goods along with craft vendors, door prizes and live music. 

 

The LEWES JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION, celebrating one of the most important events in African-American history takes place at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes on June 27th from 1 to 6 p.m. There will be live music, theatrical presentations, food trucks, and family activities. 

 

Harken back to colonial days at the LAVENDER & LAMBS FESTIVAL from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 27th and 28th in Millsboro. Visitors will enjoy demonstrations of sheep shearing, wool dyeing and spinning, live music and food offerings.

 

Whether you are a seasoned resident who knows these festival grounds by heart, or a new discoverer just beginning to explore everything the Delaware coast has to offer, there is always something fresh and exciting to experience in our lovely local area. June is the perfect reminder of why we choose to live, work, and play in this vibrant community.
