HERE ARE SOME GREAT PENNSYLVANIA ROAD TRIPS FROM NEW CASTLE COUNTY

If you have any doubt about how much I love autumn, I welcome you to check out THESE POSTS

about fall festivals down near the beaches and the parks, gardens, museums and other spots

where you’re apt to find the most brilliant fall color at its peak about two weeks from now.

But I’m not done yet, because last week Shane Brennan at the Delaware News

Journal wrote a lovely and informative story that will appeal to New Castle County residents

because it spotlights several road-trip destinations in nearby Pennsylvania. Here

are some highlights of the many beautiful sites within an hour and a half of Wilmington.

IN BUCKS COUNTY

This area is renowned for its beautiful semi-rural vistas, especially this time of year. Every

weekend through October 26th Bountiful Acres farm in Holicong will host its Pumpkin Harvest

Festival, with food trucks, lots of fun games, including hayrides, and the opportunity to pick

your own pumpkins.

On November 1st and 2nd Peddler’s Village in scenic New Hope will host the Apple Festival, with live music, family activities and all kinds of yummy apple products.

Washington Crossing State Park is a fascinating place if you're especially interested in

American history, with 500 acres of preserved land commemorating George Washington's

crossing of the Delaware River, which turned the tide of the Revolutionary War. On site,

you’ll find a well-preserved village, gardens, historical exhibits, and a visitor center. And on

Fridays and Saturdays through November 1st you can go on Lanterns Tours at 6:30 and 7:30.

IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

History and nature buffs will also love Valley Forge National Park,

which is about 45 minutes from Wilmington and offers 30 miles of trails,

along with guided tours. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and hotels

and Bed and Breakfasts in case you want to do an overnight.

NEAR PHILADELPHIA

Wissahickon Valley Park is within Philly’s city limits but feels a world away with its hiking trails

and dense forests that will soon be full of fall color. It’s a fun day trip from Wilmington because

you can get there in less than an hour. Learn more by clicking here!

DELAWARE AND CHESTER COUNTIES

Ridley Creek State Park is about 30 minutes away from Wilmington and

features more than 2,600 acres, with heavily wooded with hiking trails and fishing and picnic

spots.

One of the best places for gorgeous autumn views, theatre and musical performances,

wonderful dining and horticulture education is Longwood Gardens

near beautiful and historic Kennett Square. This ear there's a special event –

The Wicked Fun Weekend – taking place October 24th, 25th, and 26th, with live music

from Polkadelphia in the Beer Garden from 5 to 7:45p.m. all three nights and other activities for family fun.
