Earlier this week I spotlighted several October events profiled in the Cape Gazette’s Fall Festival Guide. I focused on those taking place during the first two weeks because it would have taken almost all of the Internet’s bandwidth to cover them all! It was a great reminder of how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful place during this beautiful season. Here are some highlights for the second half of the month.
IF YOU’RE A SHOPPER . . .
Take a day trip to historic downtown Berlin, Maryland (just over the Delaware line) for the Berlin Oktoberfest & Sidewalk Sale on Thursday, October 16th. In addition to wonderfully diverse offerings from the town’s lovely boutiques you’ll enjoy all kinds of German foods and live music from Edelweiss. Learn more by clicking here.
Two weeks later you can continue your holiday shopping at the Rehoboth Art League Holiday Fair taking place on Saturday and Sunday, November 1st and 2nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. You’ll find jewelry, glasswork, ceramics, and other artistic creations and all kinds of wonderful food on the grounds of this beautiful, historic place.
IF YOU WANNA GAMBLE FOR SOME GOOD . . .
Take your good luck to Save Em By the Sea Casino Night on Thursday, October 30th in Millsboro at the Baywood Greens Ballroom. It features silent and live auctions, casino table games, foods and beverages and live entertainment, with proceeds going to Humane Animal Partners. Get the details by clicking here!
IF YOU LIKE TO GO BIG ON HALLOWEEN . . .
Okay so maybe you’re not totally freaky – but your grandkids might be. If so, make plans for Zombie Fest 2025: Apocalypse starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 16th at Hudson Fields in Milton. There will be freak shows, killer bands, fireworks, food trucks and all kinds of safe family fun. You can even slip into your costume on the premises with zombie make-up stations.
Lewes – with its historic buildings and churches and graveyards – has all kinds of Halloween atmosphere, especially on Friday, October 24th when Boos & Brews once again comes to the Lewes Historical Society’s complex from 6 to 9 p.m. This is a fabulous costume party with great food, beer and wine from local restaurants, live music, and ghost stories told by costumed actors. If your dog has been begging for time out of the house, get dressed up together and head out to Wags, Witches & Warlocks on Saturday October 25th in Bethany Beach. If you register at 9 a.m. you can parade together starting at 10 a.m. and maybe even win honors in the costume contest. Proceeds go to the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
Capping off the Halloween season in the biggest possible way, the Sea Witch Festival returns to Rehoboth and Dewey Beach on Thursday through Saturday, October 24th through 26th. This is one of Delaware’s biggest annual events, drawing thousands for three days of trick or treating, Halloween games, live entertainment and . . . yes . . . another parade for your dog.
