Fall Festivals Guide

Check Out the Cape Gazette’s Fall Festivals Guide

Fall always feels magical with the softening of the sunlight and gorgeous golds and burgundies in our foliage. And it can be especially poignant if you bike or hike through our state’s vast natural spaces, including our bay and ocean coasts https://destateparks.com/. It’s also one of the liveliest times for art, culture, and the celebration of our environment, with all kinds of festivals taking place from Wilmington down to the beaches.

If you live in Sussex County you can plan your adventures now with help from the Cape Gazette’s Fall Festivals Guide https://www.capegazette.com/article/fall-festivals-2024/279959. Here are some highlights for the rest of September:

Take a day trip to Berlin for history, art and culture September 15th – 20th

The coastal regions of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia are filled with beautiful natural sites that draw artists who yearn to catch them in the most perfect light. If you visit the historic town of Berlin, Maryland between September 15th and 20th you can experience their creativity in action during the Paint Worcester County Plein Air Festival. You’ll need an adventurous spirit to spot them working at the various spots that inspire them, and in between you can dine and shop and explore the many historic places around Berlin, one of the most charming small towns in our area. You can also plan your visit Friday, September 20th and view some of the many artworks that will be created at the Art Exhibit and Sale from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Berlin Library Gallery. Stroll through the music at the Berlin Fiddler’s Convention September 20th – 22nd

Take a return trip to Berlin the following weekend for the Fiddler’s Convention, which begins on Friday, the 20th with The Plate Scrapers and the High and Wides playing on the town’s lovely Main Street. Stay or return for festivities on Saturday and Sunday with bluegrass, Celtic, Irish and Cajun tunes playing all day amid artists and fun cuisine. Learn more at www.berlinchamber.org.

Shop for local “home-grown” décor in Dover on September 21st

The Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village is a great place for learning about Delaware’s farms and the people who contribute to our heritage. Year-round it offers exhibits and programs that spotlight various aspects of our most important industry in a 38,000 square foot exhibit space and an historic village. On Saturday, September 21st from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can learn a lot about farming and shop for wonderful home and garden items at its 2024 Fall Craft Show.
