Two weeks ago we wrote a blog post about all of the fun ways to celebrate the winter holidays at the beach followed by another post about some of the fine ways to make the holidays brighter for others. These posts were significant because theres so much to see and do in the Cape region and now we want to let you know about a few more.
Lewes Lights
Lewes Lights is one of our favorites. Co-organized by Debra Evalds and Christian Mullins, its a driving tour that takes you through several beautiful neighborhoods, where hundreds of home and business owners have decked out their properties in a vibrant celebration of the season.
As stated in this December 5th 2020 Cape Gazette article by Nick Roth, the event is perfectly tailored to concerns about the ongoing Covid epidemic because it enables sightseers to take it all in from the comfort of their cars. Since December 1st of this year, visitors have been able to download a map of the participating properties and soon theyll be able to listen to a narrated audio tour of homes within the Lewes Historical District narrated by Mike DiPaolo. You can also vote for your property of choice to win the Clark Griswold of Lewes Award.
Enjoy a Historical Holiday
If youre looking for a low-key daytime activity, check out the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, where youll find homemade salt-flour ornaments and clove studded oranges in a decorative throw-back to bygone holiday traditions. Organized by Sussex Gardeners, this Sweet Traditions exhibit is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday during December. Take a Sweet Field Trip
For more old-fashioned fun, join the crowd at St. Peters Episcopal Church for the 2021 Cookie Walk this Saturday, December 18th. If you simply want to indulge your sweet tooth you can go to the Parish Hall on Mulberry Street between 8:30 and 11:30, where youll encounter tables stacked high with homemade cookies. If past years are any indication, youre apt to find all kinds of gingerbread, sugar cookies, macaroons, snickerdoodles and shortbreads.
