Recognizing the Boomers

Some may think recognizing a Boomer is guessing their age, but a Boomer is so much more

At Active Adults Realty, all of our agents are SRES certified - meaning we have specialized understanding and resources to meet the particular needs of maturing Americans, aged 50+, when selling, buying, relocating, or refinancing residential or investment properties. By earning the SRES designation, REALTORS prepare to approach clients with the best options and information for them to make life-changing decisions.

Boomer homeowners often have different needs and finances than their younger counterparts. These Active Adults typically aren't making a job change or moving with small children. The buyers often can afford a higher down payment or may have the ability to pay for a new home in cash.

Meet the Boomers We Serve

According to the National Association of Realtors, Boomers are a wild and varied bunch of individuals. Can you pick out which Boomer you are?

The Grand

"Family first" has always been a priority. Think big family gatherings for the holidays and memorable vacations with everyone from the newest baby addition to great aunts and uncles. The more, the merrier. These Boomers thrill in being able to babysit the grandchildren and host sleepovers.

An Ideal Home must have space to host family get-togethers and yard space for cookouts. Grands want a home that centers around their family interests.

The Adventurer

After giving so much to their careers and raising their family, these Adventurers are ready for some well-deserved "me" time or time to travel. This is their time to enjoy the activities they couldn't indulge in during earlier phases of life.

An Ideal Home must take care of itself. Living in a community with a homeowner's association to take care of lawn maintenance and snow removal could be just the answer. Perhaps a new construction home built to suit is another option.

The Entrepreneurial

These on-the-go types aren't ready to slow down. Now is their turn to kick-off a business of their own. They want to refocus all their energy into nurturing and growing a new career, a start-up business, a hobby, or a philanthropic initiative.

An Ideal Home will include a dedicated home office space, a workshop, or a large garage to accommodate a small business or a studio. They may also be interested in renting commercial property for offices, meeting rooms, storage, or production and creative spaces.

The Traditional

Traditionalists love their home and consider it part of their identity, including memories of parenting children. The house may be larger than they need, but the extra space could be handy if the kids come back to visit. They are interested in a home where they can age-in-place.

An Ideal Home will allow them to live their retirement comfortably with minimum upkeep required. If downsizing, they might be interested in an adult-living community "pocket neighborhood," where they can live in a single-family home among people with similar mindsets.

The Uptown

These folks want their next chapter to focus on city life and all the amenities that come with it. They want a maintenance-free lifestyle filled with options, entertainment, access to the arts, and the ability to do what they want, when they want, including eating out at different restaurants several times a week and meeting up with friends.

An Ideal Home is all about the lifestyle rather than the property and could be viewed as an investment property.

The Sandwich

Some Boomers are actively involved in supporting their aging parents or their adult childrenor bothunder the same roof. This could be a temporary or permanent living arrangement.

An Ideal Home will focus on multi-generational needs, such as having an in-law suite or separate living areas. The family will have enough space to feel connected with some private areas.
