Our Featured Boomers are Mary Anne Borja and Alonzo R. Borja, MD, FACS, who relocated from Horseheads, New York.
When faced with boomer relocation, the Borja's considered Medford, NJ, Avondale, PA and West Grove, MD but settled in for Delaware.
"We were looking online for 55 Plus communities in Delaware... from Newark to Bridgeville to Milford and Bethany Beach but proximity to Route 95 was the prime consideration for easy driving to visit our children," says Alonzo.
"In the process of searching for a place, we came across Bill Bell, a REALTOR specializing in adult community living. He showed us manygood communities but two neighborhoods around Middletown caught our interest."
Alonzo continues, "Ultimately, we settled for Spring Arbor simply because of the home's design with easy care-free living, proximity to our children and the convenience of the nearby shops. Bill assisted us in all the stages of buying our home from signing the contract through overseeing our homes construction to the Closing. We depended on our REALTOR so much since we were spending winter in the south during the construction." The couple made Spring Arbor home in April 2015.
Alonzo is a former chief cardiovascular surgeon in Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. Mary Anne, a retired nurse, devoted her time raising a family of four and volunteering in school as well as helping with Meals On Wheels.
When asked, what are the 3 most important factors making Delaware the Borjas retirement choice? The answer is that they are now only 1.5 hours to Medford, NJ, 2 hours from Reading, PA and 4 hours from Glen Allen, VA! "The locations of 3 of our children's homes and our being closer to Hilton Head Island,SC, made the decision to relocate to Delaware quite easy."
On their retirement in Delaware, "We are having a blast exploring small mid-Atlantic towns and cities, like Annapolis, Rock Hall, Chester City, Dover, Delaware City, New Castle for historical values and their festivities," says Alonzo, who posts their experiences on Facebook to family and friends.
On the Borjas Bucket List: We want to stay active, bike, walk, play golf, bowl and spend more time with our grandchildren." They intend to find convenient volunteer work but in the meantime, they will explore Delaware's coastal towns like Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany Beach, Ocean City, Assataegue, Virginia Beach and everything betweenMiddletown and Hilton Head Island.
