Bob and his wife Michelle moved to Milton, Delaware, almost 4 years ago from New Jersey. Since 1967, Bob has been in the insurance industry servicing businesses and consumers at different stages of his career. Even now in retirement, Bob continues to help businesses with their insurance needs.
We helped Bob and Michelle find their new home at Heritage Creek in Milton in 2009. They quickly became friends with Neil and Judy, another couple originally from New Jersey. It turns out that Neil and Judy moved here from Pompton Plains, the town where I grew up, but thats another story!
I introduced Bob to Twitter and he became an active Tweeter. He began to meet people on Twitter and by attending TweetUps locally as well as upstate in Wilmington and Newark. He even met Governor Markell at a TweetUp.
But Bobs main passions are dogs and racket ball. As soon as he got settled, he joined Midway Fitness because it is the only local facility that offers racket ball. I hear hes pretty competitive.
His neighbors know Bob through Jessie, his dog, but they call Bob The Mayor. He is always out to welcome people to Heritage Creek and tell them what a great community it is. He helped start the Community Garden and this year he promises not everyone will grow tomatoes!
In his so-called retirement, Bob is a volunteer for three organizations:
- Safe Haven No-Kill Animal Sanctuary, Georgetown, Delaware Bob is now a Board Member. He started as a Volunteer with a reputation for doing whatever needs to be done. He has walked dogs, transported dogs to the Vet and helped with fundraising. Bob tells me it is one of the cleanest shelters he has ever been in. He also reminded me that their big fundraiser is coming up on May 31st the Big Spring Fling is a Dinner Dance at the Rehoboth Beach Yacht & Country Club featuring the Funsters, one of Delawares most popular bands. Tickets are $100/per person. If youre interested, let me know and I will put you in touch with Bob.
- Habitat for Humanity Bob is helping with the Annual Walt Jones Memorial Golf Tournament scheduled this year for May 18th at the Midway Par 3 Golf Course. Only $325 for a 5 person team also includes lunch. All for a great cause.
- Milton Community Foundation Bob just joined the Board of this organization whose focus is to provide support to local organizations and make Milton a better community. They are currently working with DNREC to build water gardens in key locations throughout town helping to provide better stormwater management.
When I asked Bob how he feels about retirement living in Coastal Delaware, he quickly commented - "If I had to do it over again, I would do it in a minute. I mean move to Delaware, buy a home in Heritage Creek and become active in the organizations I now work with.
