How are the hospitals in Coastal Delaware?

People often ask me about the quality of hospitals and medical care here in Coastal Delaware. So many of our newcomers are planning to make this their permanent residence when they retire, its a common concern. As we age, access to top doctors and state-of-the-art facilities is important. We are very lucky here to have some of the areas best hospitals:

Beebe Medical Center:

The main campus of Beebe Medical Center is located in the heart of Lewes. There is an expanded Cardiac & Vascular Care wing that opened in 2009 in Lewes. The Cancer Care Center is located on Rt. 24 next to an Outpatient facility that serves the growing population between Lewes and Millsboro, DE. The Beebe Orthopaedic Care Center has ranked in the top 5% of all hospitals in the nation!

Beebe Medical Center also offers specialized service in Womens Health. Walk-in Care facilities are now opening in convenient locations throughout the community.

Beebe Medical Center provides emergency medical care through its Emergency Department at the main campus in Lewes, as well as at the Emergency Medical Center that operates in the summer season in Millville. As a Level III trauma center, the Emergency Department has the capability to initially manage the majority of injured patients, and it has transfer agreements with higher-level centers of care. Beebe Medical Center also is connected to a statewide Trauma Network that includes ground and air ambulance equipment, personnel, and paramedics, as well as medical centers, that can be accessed through the 911 telephone number. Bayhealth Medical Center:

Bayhealth encompasses the old Kent General Hospital in Dover as well as Milford Memorial Hospital and related health centers throughout both Kent and Sussex Counties. Bayhealth Home Care has been ranked in the top 25% in the nation. Bayhealth Home Care services help patients in all three Delaware counties recover from illness or injury in their own homes. The staff includes nurses and therapists who provide nursing services; physical, occupational and speech therapy. Bayhealth has recently expanded its Outpatient facilities into the communities it serves as far south as Milton.

BREAKING NEWS:Nanticoke Health Services announced in February 2019, that it will affiliate with a Salisbury, Maryland, hospital system, likely providing the small Seaford hospital more financial security at a time when rural hospitals are struggling. Peninsula Regional Health System has a 288-bed hospital in Salisbury as well as practices in Millsboro and Laurel, DE.
