Milton is a Sussex County jewel. The town's historic district, containing 200 homes, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's walkable neighborhoods feature architecture ranging from lacy Victorian homes to gorgeous Arts and Crafts bungalows. Residents and visitors of this former shipbuilding town at the head of the tidal Broadkill River enjoy town parks (including Governor's River Walk), unique shops, and recreational opportunities right in town including fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.
Golfers will find an excellent selection of courses in Milton and nearby. There are outdoor summer concerts, a summer house and garden tour, delightful Christmas festivities, galleries and artist's studios, and fine local eateries. Prized for its scenic neighborhoods and waterways, Milton is just down the road from Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge , a favorite of wildlife and landscape photographers. Milton is also a short drive to Lewes, another historic gem, and to the beach and boardwalk at nearby Rehoboth Beach. Milton attractions include Lavender Fields Farm and the renowned Dogfish Head Craft Brewery , among others.
In May 2006, the Milton Historical Society completed extensive renovations of the former Grace United Methodist Church and celebrated the opening of the Lydia Black Cannon Museum. Located in the heart of the Historic District, this is only one of many exciting renovations taking place in Milton. The Milton Theater now hosts live theater, movies, poetry readings and a variety of local events. The Milton Library has doubled in size and downtown is alive both day and evening as residents find more chances to enjoy their neighbors and their town.
